COVID-19 – The Pharmacist's Role in Mitigating Risk, Addressing Shortages, and Achieving Therapeutic Needs
The COVID-19 pandemic has put most of the world at a standstill – except for the medical and health care personnel manning the frontlines. Now more than ever, the role of the compounding pharmacist becomes even more crucial. In this webinar, we review what the scientific community knows thus far about the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus and the disease it causes, COVID-19. We thereafter discuss the expansion of the pharmacist's responsibilities, particularly in infection control and prevention, to mitigate this crisis. Lastly, we identify the exceptional opportunities available for the compounding pharmacist in this emergently changing landscape, including potential drug shortages, the increased demand for analgesics, antipyretics, and hand sanitizers, as well as possible therapeutics to treat COVID-19.
