Trends in Veterinary Pharmacy: What Compounders Need to Know (PFM On-demand)

Overview

As pet ownership has increased significantly over the past couple of decades, so has the need for compounding sterile and non-sterile preparations for animal patients. 

This activity will survey the current state of veterinary compounding, from applying evidence-based medicine during formulation selection for non-human patients to reviewing the latest regulatory updates impacting veterinary pharmacy. Participants will also explore case scenarios where different treatment options for these unique patients can be applied in practice.

    Natalie Young, PharmD, BCSCP, FACVP

    Natalie Young, PharmD, BCSCP, FACVP, is the Pharmacist-In-Charge of Brava’s North Carolina location, a PCAB accredited, sterile compounding, veterinary pharmacy in Raleigh. She graduated from the North Carolina School of Science and Mathematics before receiving her Chemistry degree from UNC-Chapel Hill in 2006. She went on to earn her Doctorate from the UNC-Chapel Hill Eshelman School of Pharmacy in 2016. Upon graduation, she jumped headfirst into numerous unique opportunities to learn from experts in both compounding and veterinary pharmacology. 
     
    Dr. Young is board certified through the Board of Pharmacy Specialists in sterile compounding. She currently serves as the Chairmen of the American College of Veterinary Pharmacists, the Chair of the American Pharmacists Association’s Compounding SIG, and the Past-President of the North Carolina Veterinary Medical Association’s Industry Council. Dr. Young also serves in the American Pharmacists Association’s House of Delegates, as an Assistant Professor of Clinical Education at the UNC Chapel Eshelman School of Pharmacy, and as a consulting Clinical Staff Pharmacist at several veterinary clinics. In her commitment to promote veterinary pharmacy and compounding education, she has authored many peer-reviewed scientific publications, research studies, projects, and provided numerous continuing education lectures for professionals throughout the United States.

    COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

    1. View the recorded webinar in full.
    2. Pay the credit reporting fee of $10.00 USD.
    3. Complete a learning assessment (minimum 80% passing grade, two attempts permitted) within 14 days.
    4. Submit a completed live event evaluation form online within 14 days.

    When the aforementioned steps have been completed and approved:

    • Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians registered in the United States will obtain a statement of completed credits on their NABP e-Profile within 60 days.
    • Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians registered elsewhere will receive an automated email from LP3 Network advising that they can download a statement of participation.
    • All participants will receive an automated email from LP3 Network advising that they can download the LP3 Network certificate of completion.
