Overview

The role of the Designated Person(s), DPs, is essential to all areas of compounding. With recent updates to the USP compounding chapters, the DP has a multitude of responsibilities.  This program will outline the responsibilities of the DP from the perspectives of <795> and <800>. Participants will gain insight into regulatory expectations, responsibilities, and strategies for maintaining compliance and ensuring both patient and employee safety in non-sterile drug compounding.

    2. Examine the definition, qualifications, and responsibilities of the Designated Person in non-sterile compounding
    3. Define best practices in environmental monitoring, documentation, and staff training
    4. Apply real-world scenarios of compliance principles
    5. Recall requirements for SOPs and a formal, written QA and QC program
    6. Identify how to prepare for regulatory inspections and audits.

    Matthew Lester, RPh, MBA, BCSCP

    Matthew Lester joined the PCCA Clinical Services team as a Clinical Compounding Pharmacist in 2022. A 1996 graduate of The University of Texas College of Pharmacy and earning his MBA from The University of Texas at Tyler in 2021; Matthew was previously the Chief Operating Officer of Oakdell Pharmacy, in San Antonio, Texas. During his tenure with Oakdell, he worked in infusion, long-term care, consulting and disease state management areas of pharmacy. He has a passion for helping patients wherever their journey of life is taking them. He was also selected and served on the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Compounding Steering Committee. Matt is a preceptor for multiple colleges of pharmacy, including The University of Texas College of Pharmacy, Duquesne and Xavier, among others, helping to train the pharmacists of tomorrow. He is board certified in Sterile Compounded Preparations through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.

    COMPLETION REQUIREMENTS

    1. Attend the live webinar in full (login and logout times will be recorded).
    2. Complete a learning assessment (minimum 75% passing grade, two attempts permitted) within 14 days.
    3. Submit a completed live event evaluation form online within 14 days.

    When the aforementioned steps have been completed and approved:

    • Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians registered in the United States will obtain a statement of completed credits on their NABP e-Profile within 60 days.
    • Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians registered elsewhere will receive an automated email from LP3 Network advising that they can download a statement of participation.
    • All participants will receive an automated email from LP3 Network advising that they can download the LP3 Network certificate of completion.
