Overview
The role of the Designated Person(s), DPs, is essential to all areas of compounding. With recent updates to the USP compounding chapters, the DP has a multitude of responsibilities. This program will outline the responsibilities of the DP from the perspectives of <795> and <800>. Participants will gain insight into regulatory expectations, responsibilities, and strategies for maintaining compliance and ensuring both patient and employee safety in non-sterile drug compounding.

- Review Designated Person(s) responsibilities stated in USP <795>, and <800> standards
- Examine the definition, qualifications, and responsibilities of the Designated Person in non-sterile compounding
- Define best practices in environmental monitoring, documentation, and staff training
- Apply real-world scenarios of compliance principles
- Recall requirements for SOPs and a formal, written QA and QC program
- Identify how to prepare for regulatory inspections and audits.

Matthew Lester joined the PCCA Clinical Services team as a Clinical Compounding Pharmacist in 2022. A 1996 graduate of The University of Texas College of Pharmacy and earning his MBA from The University of Texas at Tyler in 2021; Matthew was previously the Chief Operating Officer of Oakdell Pharmacy, in San Antonio, Texas. During his tenure with Oakdell, he worked in infusion, long-term care, consulting and disease state management areas of pharmacy. He has a passion for helping patients wherever their journey of life is taking them. He was also selected and served on the National Community Pharmacists Association (NCPA) Compounding Steering Committee. Matt is a preceptor for multiple colleges of pharmacy, including The University of Texas College of Pharmacy, Duquesne and Xavier, among others, helping to train the pharmacists of tomorrow. He is board certified in Sterile Compounded Preparations through the Board of Pharmacy Specialties.
