Personalized Dermatology: Wounds and Scars

DESCRIPTION

Whether the result of injury or surgery, wounds must undergo the healing process in order to restore skin health and integrity. Many factors can disrupt one or more phases of this process, resulting in non-healing wounds and abnormal scarring – the impacts of which can have devastating physical, emotional, and financial consequences. Optimizing wound healing and scar reduction is thus a major consideration among healthcare professionals.

Divided into a 1 ½ day seminar program and ½ day laboratory training, this live event provides healthcare professionals foundational knowledge on wound and scar physiology, proven clinical approaches in wound and scar assessment, current treatment recommendations and guidelines, and peer-reviewed evidence on personalized approaches toward- and pharmaceutical compounding opportunities for- the treatment of wounds and scars.

SEMINAR

Through case studies, formulation activities, and interactive discussions, the 1 ½ day seminar component of this live event investigates:

  • Wound healing and scar formation physiology.
  • Clinical decision-making processes for wound and scar assessment and management.
  • Current wound and scar treatment recommendations and guidelines.
  • Peer-reviewed and clinical evidence on the therapeutic efficacy of different medication dosage forms, vehicles, excipients, and active ingredients.
  • Pharmaceutical formulation strategies and special considerations.
  • Innovative and patient-tailored solutions for optimizing patient therapeutic outcome.

LABORATORY TRAINING

The ½ day lab training provides valuable and practical information on preparatory technique, pharmaceutical calculations, workflow optimization, base and dispensing device selection, quality control, and the implementation of innovative technologies in pharmaceutical compounding.

In this lab training, participants will compound three dermatological formulations:

  • Topical Wound Ointment
  • Topical Scar Gel
  • Topical Powder Adhesive Bandage

Intended audience

Pharmacists, Pharmacy Technicians, Physicians, Nurse Practitioners, and other healthcare providers engaged in the treatment of wounds and scars.
