MEDISCA Australia | WEBINAR: Guidelines and Standards on Compounding of Medicines | ON-DEMAND

The accredited webinar discusses select requirements of the Pharmacy Board of Australia Guidelines on Compounding of Medicines, 2024 and the Australian Pharmaceutical Formulary and Handbook, 2024. It is divided into a short 10-minute pre-read, 30-minute presentation supported by a slide presentation followed by a 60-minute question and answer period hosted by an expert panel. Answers to all questions will be made available for review upon completion of the webinar.

PATRICIA ULLMANN, B. Pharm

Director of Public Affairs and Education, MEDISCA Australia.

Patricia is a registered pharmacist with broad experience in community pharmacy and in compounding pharmacy since the 1990s. She was pharmacist-in-charge for 15 years at one of Australia’s first compounding pharmacies where her responsibilities included the development & implementation of policies & standard operating procedures; regulatory compliance; patient counselling; collaboration with physicians and other health care professionals.

Patricia has been a member of the TGA’s Pharmacy Manufacturing Technical Working Group on compounding. She has contributed to reviews of compounding in Professional Practice Standards and in Australian Pharmaceutical Formulary and Handbook. She is the author of published articles on compounding in the Australian Journal of Pharmacy; and presenter of training webinars and podcasts in collaboration with PDL and AJP.

Patricia is a member of the Academic Advisory Board of the Australasian College of Pharmacy and the current chair of the Australian Society of Compounding Pharmacists.

CAROLYN ALLEN, BPharm, AACPA, MPS

Senior Professional Practice Pharmacist, PHARMACEUTICAL SOCIETY OF AUSTRALIA (PSA)

Carolyn has extensive experience as a hospital pharmacist, community pharmacist, consultant pharmacist and writer of professional guidelines and education.

As a hospital pharmacist, Carolyn has prepared a wide range of compounded sterile medicines, including total parenteral nutrition, peritoneal dialysis solutions, eye drops, epidural infusions, irrigations and cytotoxics.

As a community pharmacist, Carolyn has prepared a wide range of oral and topical compounded non-sterile medicines.

Carolyn currently works as a Senior Professional Practice Pharmacist for the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia. She is a member of the Australian Pharmaceutical Formulary and Handbook content development team. She worked closely with the APF Formulary Review Group, compounding pharmacists and other stakeholders to develop the APF26 compounding guidance.

DR. SELENA BOYD, BSci. Hons, BPharm PhD, MPS

Pharmacy Lecturer, QUEENSLAND UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY

Dr Boyd is a university lecturer in pharmacy practice since 2008. Selena teaches and examines students in compounding as a component of their course at university, as well as other areas of pharmacy practice.

Prior to her career in academia, Selena worked in both hospital and managed community pharmacies and is an experienced pharmacy practitioner. She is a reviewer of the Professional Practice Standards and is on the Australian Pharmaceutical Formulary Committee.

Her research interests are in compounding and animals, where she has a PhD in wound healing and anti-scarring compounded formulations for horses. She has presented her research at International Pharmacy Conferences in both Las Vegas and Abu Dhabi. When she is not teaching university students, Selena works in a compounding pharmacy.

SARA MONFARED, BPharm, BSc(PCOL), Grad Dip(PCOL), MPS

Compounding Services & Education Supervisor, MEDISCA Australia.

Sara is a registered pharmacist with over a decade of diverse experience, specialising in community pharmacy and compounding. Previously, she was the Pharmacist Manager and Clinical Trial Coordinator, at one of the pioneering standalone compounding pharmacies in New South Wales, where she developed a wide range of compounding skills in both sterile and non-sterile settings.

Since 2021, Sara has been with Medisca as a Compounding Pharmacist and Education Facilitator. She is currently the Supervisor of Compounding Services and the Education Department. In this role, she leads a team of Subject Matter Experts (SME) who provide technical support in formulation, clinical, and regulatory inquiries to compounding pharmacists. Her expertise extends to identifying areas of non-compliance and offering expert guidance to ensure adherence to legislative requirements. Sara has also served on the Board of the Australian Society of Compounding Pharmacists. In 2024, she was consulted as an SME by the Australian Pharmaceutical Formulary on the recently published guidelines for compounding APF 26.
