    Kathleen Kane, PharmD, BCSCP, DPLA

Over the past Seventeen years, Dr. Kathleen Kane focused her professional career on compounding pharmacy. While working in community, institutional, and industry settings she developed extensive expertise on the evolving regulatory standards set forth by pharmacy regulatory agencies along with USP. Prior to beginning pharmacy school, Dr. Kane was a laboratory manager for an independent community compounding pharmacy where she managed operations including sterile and non-sterile compounding.

Dr. Kane graduated from Chicago State University-College of Pharmacy with a PharmD degree in 2014. During her time there she concentrated her studies on improving the focus on compounding within the curriculum. She led and assisted in the creation of compounding training videos and established CSU-COP as a competitor in the regional and national SPCC- Student Pharmacist Compounding Competition. After graduation, Dr. Kane expanded her compounding knowledge by working to prepare products for Phase 1 and Phase 2 clinical trials with a local drug manufacturer.

Currently at University of Chicago, she is working on designing and constructing cleanroom spaces that meet the new cGMP and USP standards while also maintaining compliance with compounding for the organization as a whole. Dr. Kane, achieved board certification in sterile compounding, participating in the first exam offered for this specialty.

Since that time she has been appointed to the compounded sterile preparations specialty council with BPS working to develop and review test questions for future board certification exams, and will serve as Chair for the 2025 term. Additionally she serves and has served on many committees and as a consultant for the following national organizations: APC, ISPE, ICHP, ASHP, and Lachman Consultants.
